An End to a Decade of Dance
Luba Mushtuk has concluded her time as a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing after a decade with the BBC programme. The Russian-born performer, aged 36, bid farewell during the final performance of the annual tour on Sunday 31 May, marking the close of an era for both the dancer and devoted viewers across the United Kingdom.
Mushtuk's Path to Strictly
Mushtuk joined the cast of professional dancers in 2018, having previously spent two years as an assistant choreographer. Her partnerships included Olympian James Cracknell in 2019, American footballer Jason Bell, Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas, and DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles in 2024. The furthest she advanced was week seven alongside Thomas, though she received no celebrity partner in the most recent series.
Emotional Farewell on Tour
Addressing the audience with visible emotion, Mushtuk reflected on the conclusion of her journey. She remarked that the dance one loves must sometimes end, yet this opens the way for new dances, steps, and stories. In a subsequent video shared on TikTok, she expressed profound gratitude to fans and the unseen team behind the scenes, describing the experience as absolutely unforgettable.
A Wave of Departures
Mushtuk is among five dancers stepping away ahead of the 2026 series, alongside Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova, Michelle Tsiakkis, and Gorka Marquez. While Marquez chose to leave of his own accord, the others were part of a broader cast adjustment following the departure of long-standing hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who will be succeeded by Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and former professional Johannes Radebe.
Reflections on Gratitude and Transition
In her public statement, Mushtuk conveyed a heart full of gratitude as she steps away from Strictly Come Dancing. She emphasised that the moment has arrived to pursue her dreams beyond the show, expressing excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead in her career.
The Future of the Show
Strictly Come Dancing is scheduled to return to BBC One in September, continuing its place in British cultural life. The changes in the professional line-up and presenting team reflect ongoing efforts to refresh the programme while maintaining its appeal to audiences who value its blend of performance, discipline, and entertainment.
