International Carriers Extend Flight Suspensions to Israel

British Airways announced an extension of its flight suspensions to several Middle East destinations, including Tel Aviv, through October 25, 2026. The decision affects routes to Tel Aviv, Dubai, Bahrain, and Amman, driven by ongoing regional security concerns and challenges in reaching stable arrangements involving Iran. The airline will resume service to Doha and Riyadh in August.

British Airways Details and Corporate Ties

British Airways forms part of International Airlines Group, which also operates Iberia, Aer Lingus, and Vueling. Qatar Airways holds a 25 percent stake in the parent company. This corporate link may influence route decisions across the network while the carrier maintains select Gulf connections.

Additional Carriers Adjust Israel Schedules

Delta Air Lines has delayed resumption of its New York to Tel Aviv route until at least September 6, with the Atlanta service suspended until December 18 and the planned Boston route postponed without a revised date. American Airlines extended cancellations for Tel Aviv and Doha flights until January 2027, marking an absence from the Israeli market exceeding three years. United Airlines currently targets September 7 for Tel Aviv and Dubai operations, though that timeline remains subject to change.

Etihad Airways Increases Service to Tel Aviv

In contrast to widespread reductions, Etihad Airways based in Abu Dhabi will expand its Tel Aviv operations. The carrier currently runs two daily flights and plans to reach up to six daily flights starting June 15. This move provides one of the few increases in capacity from an international airline serving Israel.

Implications for Israeli Travelers

Reduced flight options from major carriers could limit choices for family visits, business travel, and leisure trips during peak summer months. Passengers may face higher fares on remaining routes or longer connections through European hubs. Etihad's expansion offers an alternative for travelers heading to or from Abu Dhabi and connecting destinations.

Potential Effects on Israeli Economy and Tourism

Extended flight suspensions may affect tourism revenue and business connectivity at a time when the sector contributes significantly to employment in hospitality and related industries. Limited direct access from North America and Europe could influence conference attendance, investment visits, and export activities tied to air cargo. Local carriers and remaining international services may absorb some demand, yet overall capacity constraints remain a concern for economic recovery efforts.
