Heavy Rains Threaten Search for Two Missing in Laos Cave as Five Rescued
Heavy rains on Sunday threatened to delay the search for two people still missing in a flooded Laos cave, after five other villagers were rescued following more than a week underground. Thai and international divers have joined the operation in Xaisomboun province.
Heavy Rains Fill Cave to Second Chamber in Xaisomboun
Heavy rains on Sunday filled the cave in Laos's central Xaisomboun province up to the second chamber, blocking divers from advancing until pumps lower the water. Finnish diver Mikko Paasi reported that the flooding now threatens further searches for the two missing villagers.
Five Rescued After More Than a Week Underground
Rescue teams from Laos and Thailand, joined by divers from Finland, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, France and Australia, brought out five men identified as Khamla, Mued, Ee, Ing and Laen. The first man was guided through a narrow flooded passage on Friday, while the remaining four walked out on Saturday once the water receded.
Thai Divers Draw on 2018 Tham Luang Experience
Several Thai rescuers who helped save the twelve schoolboys and their coach from Tham Luang cave in Chiang Rai province in 2018 now work alongside Laotian teams at the Xaisomboun site, 120 kilometers north of Vientiane. Their shared knowledge of flooded passages supports the current effort to reach deeper chambers.
Survivors Describe Possible Sixth Chamber
The five rescued men told divers they had reached the fifth chamber after more than 200 meters of exploration. They described a narrow crack that may lead to a sixth chamber, giving search teams renewed hope of locating the two missing villagers who entered the cave last week seeking valuable minerals.
Emotional Reunions at Cave Entrance
Videos from the site captured the moment the rescued men emerged, some collapsing to the ground before being embraced by workers. The men are now recovering at a local hospital and are reported to be in good condition, according to Malaysian diver Lee Kian Lie.
Shared Compassion Strengthens Neighborly Bonds
For Thai communities familiar with the Tham Luang vigil, this operation in neighboring Laos reflects the gentle spirit of mutual aid that runs through Buddhist teachings of kindness. Continued cooperation between the two nations offers reassurance that no one is left behind when sudden floods strike remote villages.
