Two Men Killed in Targeted Shooting at Toronto’s Salsa on St. Clair Festival
Toronto, Canada — July 12, 2026
Two men were killed and at least four others wounded after gunfire erupted at the Salsa on St. Clair Latin festival on Saturday evening, triggering a large-scale police response in midtown Toronto.
The shooting took place shortly after 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, where thousands had gathered for the popular annual celebration of Latin culture, music, and dance.
Toronto Police confirmed that one man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second victim later died in hospital. Several others sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to area hospitals. Their conditions have not been released.
Police: Targeted Exchange of Gunfire
Toronto Police Deputy Chief Frank Barredo told reporters that the shooting was a targeted confrontation rather than a random attack on the crowd.
“This was an exchange of gunfire between individuals,” Barredo stated. “There is no indication that this was a random act of violence directed at festival-goers.”
Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene. As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been made. The homicide unit is leading the investigation and has appealed for witnesses and anyone with video footage to come forward. A motive has not yet been determined.

Festival Canceled Following Shooting
The Salsa on St. Clair festival — one of Toronto’s largest and most prominent Latin cultural events — was immediately canceled for Sunday. The 22nd annual edition had drawn large crowds for live performances and community celebrations.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the violence in a statement released Saturday night.
“An act of gun violence has no place in our city — especially not at a community festival meant to bring people together,” Chow said. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families.”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also issued a statement, describing the shooting as “senseless and unacceptable.”

Investigation Continues
Police have not released the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin. Officers continue to canvass the area and review evidence as they work to piece together the sequence of events.
The shooting has deeply affected Toronto’s Latino community and festival organizers, who described the event as a long-standing celebration of culture and inclusion.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police.
