The MND Sheinbaum Index™: Sheinbaum scores 60.0 for April 2026
**MND Intelligence Releases Second Edition of Sheinbaum Index Scoring President at 60.0 for April 2026**
MND Intelligence, a Mexico-based research organization, published the second edition of its proprietary MND Sheinbaum Index™ on 2 May 2026, assigning President Claudia Sheinbaum a composite score of 60.0 out of 100. The eight-pillar index aggregates publicly reported economic, security, social, and institutional indicators for the month of April 2026.
The index draws on data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the Bank of Mexico, and federal government statistical releases. It does not replace traditional approval polling but seeks to measure performance across measurable governance dimensions.
The Index Release
MND Intelligence stated that the April 2026 score of 60.0 reflects a three-point increase from the inaugural January 2026 edition. The organization described the index as “a data-driven tool designed to give readers balanced, quantitative insight into the current situation in Mexico across a range of policy areas.” Specific pillar weightings and raw data sets were published on the MND Intelligence website alongside the composite result. Background on the Presidency
Claudia Sheinbaum took office on 1 October 2024 as Mexico’s first female president and the candidate of the Morena party. Her administration has continued several policy lines from the previous government while introducing new initiatives in energy, water management, and public security. Official INEGI figures for the first quarter of 2026 showed GDP growth of 1.8 percent year-over-year, with unemployment at 2.9 percent. Homicide statistics released by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection recorded 2,487 intentional homicides in April 2026, a 4 percent decline from the same month in 2025.Response from Government and Analysts
Presidential spokesperson Jesús Ramírez Cuevas noted that the administration continues to monitor multiple performance indicators. “We welcome any rigorous, transparent analysis that uses verifiable public data,” Ramírez Cuevas said in a 3 May 2026 press briefing. He added that the government’s own internal tracking shows progress in nearshoring investment and social program coverage. Opposition Senator Xóchitl Gálvez, of the PAN party, stated that the score “confirms that structural challenges in security and the rule of law remain pressing.” Independent economist and former deputy finance minister Gerardo Esquivel told Reuters that composite indexes can be useful for cross-country comparison but cautioned that “methodological choices on weighting and data selection always require scrutiny.”Implications and Next Steps
The MND Sheinbaum Index™ is scheduled for monthly updates. MND Intelligence has indicated that future editions will incorporate additional INEGI household survey releases and Bank of Mexico monetary policy minutes as they become available. Government agencies and independent observers will continue to publish their own statistical series on the same topics. Further updates on the index methodology and scores will be provided as subsequent editions are released. This is Rosa Martinez for Global1 News, reporting from Mexico City. 🇲🇽
