Israel Expands Lebanon Offensive as Deadly Airstrikes Kill 31 Across South and East
Israeli airstrikes killed at least 31 people across southern and eastern Lebanon on Wednesday and wounded dozens more, Lebanese authorities confirmed, as Israel widened its military campaign along the border — a dangerous escalation that threatens to plunge the region deeper into war.
The strikes hit multiple locations, including residential areas in Nabatieh, Tyre, and the eastern Bekaa Valley. Among the dead were civilians, according to Lebanese health officials. The attacks came as Israel issued new evacuation orders for parts of southern Lebanon, signalling that the offensive is far from over.
This is what escalation looks like when there are no diplomatic brakes left. The international community has called repeatedly for de-escalation, but the calls have gone unanswered. The United Nations has warned that the conflict risks spiralling into an all-out war that neither side can afford and neither side seems able to stop.
For Lebanon, the human cost is mounting by the day. The country, already reeling from years of economic crisis and political paralysis, now faces a humanitarian catastrophe. Hospitals are overwhelmed. Displaced families are sheltering in schools and mosques. The infrastructure that survived the previous crises is being systematically destroyed.
Hezbollah has responded with rocket and drone attacks into northern Israel, creating a cycle of retaliation that has proven nearly impossible to break. Diplomatic efforts, including mediation by the United States, France, and Qatar, have so far failed to produce a ceasefire.
The question no one in Beirut can answer: where does this end?
