Body of Second Ice Fisher Missing Since March Recovered in Nova Scotia

The body of a second ice fisher who was reported missing over two months ago in Belleisle, Nova Scotia has been recovered, according to RCMP.

The individual was one of two men who went missing in March while ice fishing on the Belleisle River. The body of the first missing fisher was recovered shortly after the initial incident, but the search for the second man had continued for weeks before being scaled back.

RCMP recovered the remains on Wednesday morning after receiving a tip from a member of the public. The body was found downstream from where the two men were last seen, consistent with the theory that they fell through the ice into the frigid waters.

"This brings some measure of closure to the family, but our hearts go out to them during this difficult time," said an RCMP spokesperson. "We thank the community for their assistance throughout the search effort."

The incident has served as a tragic reminder of the dangers of early-spring ice fishing in the Maritimes, where warming temperatures can make ice conditions unpredictable and treacherous. Local officials have urged residents to exercise extreme caution when venturing onto frozen waterways.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but foul play is not suspected.
