Tragic Losses During Eid al-Adha in Gaza

Thirty-three Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. One additional death and eight injuries occurred in the last 24 hours alone, bringing the toll to this somber figure as families attempted to mark the occasion.

Injuries and Attacks Since the Holiday Began

More than 130 people have been injured in Israeli attacks since Wednesday, the first day of the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday. A medical source reported that a Palestinian man died early Sunday from severe injuries sustained in an Israeli strike in Gaza City on Saturday, highlighting the persistent dangers even during what should be a time of reflection and community.

Ceasefire Violations Amid US-Mediated Agreement

These incidents occurred despite a US-mediated ceasefire in place in Gaza since Oct. 10, 2025. The attacks have continued to affect daily life in the region, where residents seek moments of peace during the holiday despite the ongoing challenges.

Healthcare System Under Strain in Deir al-Balah

The director of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza stated that the hospital's operating rooms have shut down due to the failure of electric generators caused by the months-long Israeli blockade. This development directly impacts the ability to provide care during a period of heightened need.

Urgent Warnings from Hospital Officials

Riad Hussein, director of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, warned of an imminent total shutdown of the hospital if the situation continues. He noted that other critical departments, including intensive care, dialysis, and neonatal care, are also expected to stop functioning soon, affecting vulnerable patients across the community.

Broader Casualties Since the Ceasefire Took Hold

Israeli attacks have killed over 925 Palestinians and injured more than 2,810 since the ceasefire, according to the Gaza Media Office. The ceasefire halted Tel Aviv's two-year war on Gaza that began in October 2023 and resulted in nearly 73,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 172,000 injuries, most of them women and children, based on Palestinian figures.
