Armistice Day has been marked with two minutes of silence across the UK and in Europe.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer joined an event in Paris, while Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, led the ceremony at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

Sir Keir and the French president laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe in the French capital.

Across the UK, the traditional two-minute silence at 11:00 on 11 November was observed. It marks the time and date when the World War One armistice came into effect.

While the Armistice Day tradition began as a way of commemorating those killed in World War One, it is now used to remember all the people killed in wars since then.

ABOUT CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB

Founded in 1905, Chelsea Football Club is an English professional football club based in Fulham, West London with Stamford Bridge as the home of the club. Competing in the Premier League - the top division of English football, the club has had many successes, winning five Premier League titles. The club won their first major honour, the League championship in 1955, followed by the FA Cup in 1970, their first European honour, the Cup Winners' Cup in 1971, and became the third English club to win the Club World Cup in 2022.

As the Pride of London, Chelsea FC is one of the most success clubs in terms of overall trophies won. They are the only club to have won all three major European competitions twice and have taken the crown domestically, winning six league titles, eight FA Cups, five League Cups, and four FA Community Shields. Internationally, Chelsea have won the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup twice each, and the FIFA Club World Cup once since their inception.

북한군의 통신 내용을 감청해 공개한 우크라이나 당국이, 쿠르스크 지역에서 러시아와 북한군이 포함된 5만 명의 적군과 교전 중이라고 밝혔습니다. 양측의 전쟁 수위가 높아지고 있는 가운데, 유럽연합은 연말까지 우크라이나에 약속한 포탄 100만 발을 모두 전달하기로 했습니다. 파리 이화진 특파원입니다.

[북한군 통신/우크라이나 감청 : "박독수리 박독수리, 나 돼지 다섯 수신. 뛰어가는 게 아니라 날아갈란다. 기다려라."]

앞서, 쿠르스크 지역에서 감청한 북한군의 무선 통신 내용을 공개한 우크라이나.

통신 내용에는 즉각 복귀 명령이 담겨 있다며, 참호전 훈련까지 받은 북한군이 곧 실전에 투입될 것이라고 우려했습니다.

젤렌스키 우크라이나 대통령은 현지 시각 11일 쿠르스크 지역에서 약 5만 명의 적군과 교전 중이라고 밝혔습니다.

북한군도 포함입니다.

[볼로디미르 젤렌스키/우크라이나 대통령/지난 7일 : "(북한군 파병 인원은)만 천 명입니다. 이 군대 중 일부는 이미 우크라이나 군대에 대한 적대 행위에 가담했습니다."]

앞서 트럼프 당선인이 취임 후 24시간 이내 종전을 공언함에 따라, 종전 협상때 점령지 규모를 최대한 확보할 필요성이 커졌기 때문으로 보입니다.

양측의 전쟁 수위가 높아지고 있는 가운데, 유럽연합은 연말까지 우크라이나에 약속한 포탄 100만 발을 모두 전달하기로 했습니다.

그러면서, 러시아에 보다 유리한 종전 의지를 드러냈던 트럼프 당선인을 경계했습니다.

[호세프 보렐/유럽연합 외교안보 고위대표 : "푸틴이 전쟁에서 승리하여 키예프에 꼭두각시 정부를 설치한다면 분명히 (그것은) 미국 지도부의 승리가 아닐 것입니다. 그것이 어떻게 미국 지도부의 승리가 될 수 있을까요?"]

한편, 마크롱 프랑스 대통령과 스타머 영국 총리 또한 트럼프 당선인의 재집권을 앞두고 유럽의 독자적인 안보 강화에 재차 공감했습니다.
