Locklear is among hundreds who have joined class-action lawsuits, squeezing settlements that fund private filtration and independent health studies. Yet the battle doesn’t end at the tap. Community coalitions, armed with sampling kits and data, are pressuring state regulators to mandate comprehensive testing in private wells—often excluded from official monitoring. They are also pushing for binding cleanup standards, not just advisory levels.
