British Columbia’s health ministry says the first suspected human case of avian influenza has been detected in Canada. A teenager in the province has tested positive for the virus — also called bird flu — which can be fatal. In its recent report, Food Banks Canada said the country marked a grim milestone in 2024, with over 2 million visits in one month alone. Among the provinces seeing an increase was New Brunswick, where organizers in Moncton have reintroduced financial screening of its clients to ensure that the limited food they have is reaching those most in need.
