Blue Origin Rocket Launch LIVE: Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin Set For First Launch of Giant New Glenn Rocket | USA Today | CNBC TV18
CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA - Blue Origin expected to launch its New Glenn rocket for the first time from Cape Canaveral, FL and attempt to recover the first stage booster on a seafaring barge. This will be the long-delayed debut launch of New Glenn, Blue Origin's flagship rocket that will challenge SpaceX's dominance in the satellite launch market. The inaugural mission will carry to space a Blue Ring spacecraft, the first in Blue Origin's nascent business line offering maneuverable satellites to the Pentagon. Separately, the launch itself is a certification flight required by the U.S. Space Force before New Glenn can begin launching lucrative Pentagon missions. The mission was earlier supposed to launch a pair of Mars-bound NASA spacecraft, but New Glenn delays slipped past the Earth-Mars trajectory window that closed in October, forcing NASA to change its launch plans.
Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket, announced in 2016, is set to debut. After years of development and testing, including a successful hot-fire test of its first stage on December 27, New Glenn is finally prepared for its inaugural flight. If successful, the New Glenn could put Blue Origin at the forefront of the private sector space race—sparking even more fierce competition between the billionaires Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, the world's two richest men, who own companies vying for the lead.
