- Minister Ernesto Kesar Signals Big Changes Ahead For T&T’s LPG Industry — Wednesday 20 May 2026
- Minister in the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries Ernesto Kesar has signalled that long-awaited reforms to Trinidad and Tobago’s LPG regulations are finally moving ahead. Speaking at the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Dealers Association Limited Pioneer Awards and Dinner Ceremony on Tuesday night, he noted that plans sitting in the ministry for a decade have now been dusted off and are being aggressively prepared for Cabinet in the coming months.
The push follows a string of fatal incidents involving LPG tanks across the country last year that exposed gaps in safety and oversight. Kesar stressed that the changes are not just about rules on paper but about protecting the everyday users who depend on the fuel, from mothers preparing meals in rural households to doubles vendors and small parlour owners trying to make an honest living.
Association president Imitiaz Rahaman said members stand ready to lend their local and international experience to shape the next phase of the industry. Eleven pioneers were honoured at the ceremony, with acting National Petroleum Marketing Company Limited CEO Chester Beeput praising their role in raising standards. The reforms are expected to bring clearer guidelines that could improve safety for households and small businesses across Trinidad and Tobago. - Watch the full video from TTT Live Online below.
