This role is ideal for someone who has worked in a small or mid-sized manufacturing environment and is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the accounting function, including general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, financial statements, and management reporting.
* Improve the accuracy, timeliness, and usefulness of financial and operational data.
* Lead better use of the company’s ERP system across accounting, inventory, purchasing, production, and reporting.
* Develop and maintain a reliable month-end close process.
* Strengthen internal controls around purchasing, receiving, inventory, production, shipping, invoicing, and cash.
* Oversee inventory accounting, cycle count processes, work-in-process reporting, and cost accuracy.
* Support product/job costing, margin analysis, labor/material variance analysis, and profitability reporting.
* Partner with the Manufacturing Manager to improve process discipline and operational reporting.
* Work with outside CPA/tax advisors, banking partners, insurance providers, and other outside professionals as needed.
* Prepare weekly and monthly reports for ownership/management, including sales, backlog, shipments, gross margin, inventory, cash, and key operating metrics.
* Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and financial planning for growth.
* Coordinate with the company’s PEO/payroll provider as needed, while helping ensure accurate payroll and HR-related data flow.
Qualifications
* 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
* 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
* Experience with ERP systems required; experience improving ERP processes is highly preferred.
* Strong understanding of inventory accounting, cost accounting, work in process, and manufacturing operations.
* Prior controller, accounting manager, senior accountant, or finance manager experience.
* Ability to produce accurate financial statements and useful management reports.
* Strong Excel and reporting skills.
* High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
* Ability to identify process gaps and implement practical improvements.
* Comfortable working in a hands-on small business environment.
* CPA, CMA, or bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance preferred, but relevant manufacturing experience is more important.
Ideal Candidate
