Join Kentucky’s commitment to healthier families as a Dietetic Consultant with the Department for Public Health, Division of Maternal and Child Health. In this leadership role, you will supervise a team of dedicated nutrition professionals within the WIC Nutrition Section while driving the planning, coordination, and quality oversight of dietetic services for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Nutrition Services Program. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and supporting the Breastfeeding Education and Peer Programs, ensuring evidence-based, accessible care reaches communities across the state. As the State Nutrition Coordinator for the USDA’s WIC Program, you will collaborate with partners, guide program standards, and help advance public health outcomes for mothers and young children. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful statewide impact while leading innovative nutrition initiatives, with additional responsibilities as needed to support the mission of improving maternal and child health in Kentucky.



This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as a result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.



Key Job Responsibilities:
* Acts as Nutrition and Breastfeeding Program Coordinator for the WIC Program.
* Coordinates and supervises the section's professional staff in the execution of nutrition, public health nutrition, breastfeeding programs and initiatives.
* Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal guidelines. Analyzes program operations and strategically plans for efficiency and effectiveness.
* Evaluates the performance of professional staff, including direct supervision. Makes recommendations for disciplinary actions, investigates and takes appropriate measures consistent with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with all program standards and personnel guidance.
* Provides guidance and technical assistance to professional staff in state and local agencies as necessary.
* Creates, updates, or causes to be created and updated standard operating procedure manuals, develops staff, and ensures compliance.
* Monitors the financial status of the section. Reviews budgets, contracts, and expenses for accuracy and compliance with state and federal requirements.
* Coordinates the preparation and timely submission of federal grants and administrative reports.
* Directs the research and compilation of state reports as scheduled or upon request. Compiles, or directs to be compiled, section administrative, operating, and programmatic records and reports.


Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Must be licensed as a dietitian by the Ky. Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians and Nutritionists.
* Ability to report to the office in Frankfort, Kentucky, 3 to 5 days per week.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Leadership skills.
* Receptive to others' ideas and able to work constructively to increase the depth and effectiveness of a group or team effort.
* Experience with the WIC program preferred but not required.

Minimum Requirements
**EDUCATION:** Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in food science, nutrition or a related field which includes 12 semester hours of graduate credit in human nutrition.



**EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:** Must have five years of experience in dietetics.



**Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:** Registration as a dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association will substitute for the required education. http://www.cdrnet.org/
