1. T&T Red Cross Society Moves To Strengthen Accountability Under New Leadership — Thursday 14 May 2026
  2. The Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross Society is charting a fresh course under new leadership, with Edward Moodie appointed as Acting President. He steps in following the departure of Kwamini Allen, who has taken time away for personal reasons. Moodie told TTT News that restoring public confidence tops the agenda, particularly after delays in submitting audited financial statements led to disruptions in government subventions that help fund critical operations across the country.

To tackle these issues head-on, the executive has passed a motion to formally register as a non-profit organisation and is working to strengthen its internal manpower. Moodie stressed that continuous communication among the team, rather than waiting for formal meetings, is helping keep decisions moving. He gave firm assurances to corporate sponsors and the public that the society’s long record of handling grants with strict accountability remains unchanged, even as it navigates this period of scrutiny.

Director General Stephan Kishore said preparations are also advancing on the ground to improve emergency response. With close to 750 volunteers already in the system, the society is building capacity in communities such as Debe, Las Lomas and Woodland so local teams can act quickly in support of municipalities when disasters strike. These steps aim to ensure the Red Cross stays ready to serve vulnerable populations across Trinidad and Tobago.
