Marcos promises relief for flood-prone areas ahead of rainy season
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has vowed immediate relief for flood-prone communities as the country prepares for the rainy season. The assurance comes amid concerns over recurring flooding that displaces families and damages infrastructure each year.
Speaking on the matter, Marcos emphasized the need for swift government action to support vulnerable areas. He noted that while long-term solutions are being developed, short-term measures such as aid distribution and temporary infrastructure support will be prioritized in the coming weeks.
Government agencies are simultaneously pursuing accountability in the ongoing flood control corruption scandal. Investigations continue into alleged irregularities in project funding and implementation, with authorities working to ensure that public resources are used effectively.
The rainy season, which typically begins in June, brings heightened risks of typhoons and heavy rainfall to many parts of the Philippines. Communities in low-lying regions have already started preparing evacuation plans and reinforcing homes.
Marcos said coordination among national and local agencies will be strengthened to deliver timely assistance. Officials stressed that both immediate relief and accountability measures are essential to rebuilding public trust and improving disaster preparedness.
