Thai Military on High Alert as Border Tensions Flare with Cambodia
Pattaya beachgoers woke up to strange reports this morning. Locals spotted unusual activity along the shoreline just after sunrise on 15th May 2026. Authorities are calling it "fishy business" — and not the seafood kind.
Pattaya Beach Mystery Unfolds
Early risers noticed several small boats lingering close to shore near Walking Street. Fishermen claimed they saw suspicious packages being transferred between vessels. Pattaya police arrived within minutes and cordoned off a section of the sand. No arrests have been made yet, but officers say they are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby hotels.
The incident comes just days after Songkran cleanup crews finished clearing the famous beach. Tourists continued to snap photos, unaware of the quiet police presence.
Swedish Man Faces Gun Investigation
In a separate development, a Swedish national is under investigation after police discovered firearms in a storage locker in central Pattaya. The man, whose name has not been released, was detained last night following a tip-off. Officers found several handguns and ammunition hidden inside a rented unit near Second Road.
Thai authorities are now checking whether the weapons were linked to any recent crimes in the area. The Swedish Embassy has been notified and is providing consular support.
Military Heightens Readiness After Cambodian Border Incident
Meanwhile, the Thai military has raised its alert level along the eastern border. Shots were reportedly fired from the Cambodian side late last night near the disputed area close to Aranyaprathet. No injuries have been confirmed, but troops have been moved into forward positions.
A spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army said the situation is being monitored closely. "We are in constant contact with Cambodian counterparts to prevent any escalation," the statement read.
Daily Life Continues Amid the Headlines
Despite the string of incidents, life in Krung Thep and Pattaya carries on as usual. Street vendors still serve steaming bowls of boat noodles, and temple bells ring out across the city at dusk. Tourists continue to enjoy the warm May weather, though some express concern after seeing the news.
Local officials urge visitors to stick to well-known areas and report anything unusual to police.
